PRIORITIES & POSITIONS

Ready to Lead Douglas County Forward

As Sheriff, I’ll focus on reliable service, clear standards, and earned trust. That means countywide response, fair enforcement grounded in constitutional rights, and real accountability—strengthened by visible presence, open communication, and shared problem-solving with local partners.

 Public Safety and Community Protection

Public safety and quality of life are affected by property crime, violent crime, and calls tied to illegal drug activity and gang-related behavior. Reducing these problems takes consistent enforcement, proactive efforts, and defined priorities.

My priorities include:

  • Lawful enforcement guided by policy and constitutional rights
  • Focused attention on illegal drug use and gang activity that threatens public safety
  • Prevention strategies and visible presence aligned with rural and urban needs
  • Work with local partners to address recurring issues and improve response planning

Emergency Response and Visibility

Residents want to know that help is available and responsive, including in rural areas. Growth adds pressure on staffing, training, and resource allocation planning for day-to-day calls and major incidents.

I will focus on:

  • Staffing and deployment planning that strengthens countywide coverage
  • Training and readiness planning for major incidents and disasters
  • Coordinated operations with fire, EMS, dispatch, and public safety partners

Community Policing and Constitutional Rights

Effective law enforcement depends on clear expectations, reliable supervision, and the upholding of constitutional rights. Citizens should be able to expect fairness and professional conduct from the Sheriff’s Office. Community policing strengthens that standard through visibility, two-way communication, and shared problem-solving with local partners.

My approach includes:

  • Fair, uniform enforcement guided by the Constitution and policy
  • Strong training standards and supervision that reinforce professionalism
  • Transparency practices that support public confidence
  • Visible presence, direct communication, and shared problem-solving with local partners

Building Community Trust

Public trust is essential to effective law enforcement. Trust is earned through transparent communication, respectful engagement, and reliable follow-through.

My priorities include:

  • Regular opportunities for community feedback and town hall meetings
  • Clear public communication about priorities and decision-making
  • A system of accountability within the Sheriff’s Office

School Safety

Parents and educators want schools to be safe places to learn. School safety is built on prevention planning, communication, and clear procedures before an incident occurs.

My focus includes:

  • Threat identification and prevention planning with school partners
  • Clear, trained response procedures and preparedness planning
  • Ongoing communication with school leaders, families, and emergency services
  • Maintain School Resource Officers in Douglas County Schools

Mental Health and Deputy Wellness

Public safety work can take a toll on deputies and their families, and many calls involve mental health needs. Crisis coordination and wellness support help strengthen stability, decision-making, and sustained effectiveness.

I’ll emphasize:

  • Wellness resources and support pathways for deputies and families
  • Continued partnerships with crisis and behavioral-health professionals
  • Practical approaches that encourage early support and safer outcomes
  • Ongoing advocacy for community access to behavioral health services

Clear Vision Forward

These priorities reflect my focus for the Sheriff’s Office: public safety, countywide response, clear standards, and constitutional responsibility—while staying connected to the residents we serve. If you share that direction for Douglas County, I’d be honored to earn your support.
